PBS NewsHour and NPR feature dogfish
We collaborated with PBS NewsHour and NPR's Weekend Edition on a segment about dogfish, which featured Chatham fisherman Jamie Eldredge. Dogfish are very important to the livelihood of Cape Cod's small-boat fishing fleet.
We work with many partners to promote dogfish to Americans. Sea to Table is bringing dogfish to restaurants and university campuses across the country and will soon offer a mail delivery service. Marder Trawling Inc. creates beautiful hand cut fillets and is pushing sales efforts. The Gulf of Maine Research Institute holds sampling events across New England and assists in product development and promotion with institutional purchasers of all kinds. The University of New England's Arthur P. Girard Marine Science Center is researching nutritional value and environmental data on dogfish. Together, we are gaining steam in getting American consumers to try this terrific fish.
Kudos to producer Mary Beth Durkin and NPR's Food and Health Correspondent Allison Aubrey for coming to Chatham and speaking with fishermen. They told us they really enjoyed learning more about this perfectly delicious, abundant sustainable fish.
College students at UMass Amherst are feasting on this nutritious, delicious fish, and soon we hope all Americans will request it for their dinner plates.
